52 Fridays

January 17, 2014 By JulieK

Galatians 3:26-29     You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

*52 Fridays is a new weekly feature on the blog, based on my Lenten project from last year where I posted a Bible verse and photo each day of Lent 2013.

We all know that I’m multicraftual… Paper, Fabric, Yarn, doesn’t matter the medium, I just like to make stuff :) I just recently decided to join in on a Mystery Knit a Long, meaning, lots of people knit a project at the same time, but with the added fun of a mystery pattern!! I usually don’t like the “pressure” of a knit a long, because I don’t like to feel behind in my crafts if we have a crazy week… But one of my favorite stores, The Woolpack in Acton sent out an email and invited all their customers to join in (they’re offering a discount on the yarn as well).  I had recently bought the correct amount of yarn, and had no plans for it yet, so I purchased the pattern, and the first clue was distributed on Monday… I am nearly finished with the first clue, and am very excited about how it’s coming out!!

The pattern is available on Ravelry, I already have several patterns by this designer, and they were all very well written and easy to follow… The first clue was no different!! The fun of this is that every clue has 2 different choices, I chose 1B for the first section, and it’s coming along very nicely!

I’m using a variegated yarn (’cause I almost never use a solid). The yarn is by Knit One Crochet Two, Kettle Tweed in the Mushroom colorway (greys and browns). And, I love the feel of it so far! It’s fingering weight, which is a FAR cry from the chunky yarn I usually use, so it’s different and fun!

As I type this, I’m on row 47 with just 11 rows left in the first clue.

SPOILER ALERT: if you are working on this and don’t want to see progress, the picture below is of where I am right now :) I just started the lace chart and have 11 rows to go… Don’t look if you don’t want to see :) Obviously it will lay flat when finished and blocked, but I’m loving it so far… I’m excited to see how it comes along!! Anyone else thinking of jumping in?

52 Fridays

January 10, 2014 By JulieK

Welcome to the new year, and the start of several resolutions! I so enjoyed my “40 Days” Lenten project last year, that this year I decided to expand on it, and make it a weekly feature on the blog… So, today we start this year’s 52 Fridays, each Friday of the year, I will post an image (that I took, or have permission to use) and a scripture verse that spoke to me that week.  I hope you will join me this year spending a little more time with the bible.

I want to start with my one of my favorite-go-to verses…

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I am still collecting favorite verses… If you’d like to share your favorite verse with me, please fill out the form HERE and let me know, on the form you can enter just the book/verse or the text or both. You can also simply post a comment here :)

In a similar resolution, for the last several years, I have started listening to the Daily Audio Bible. I love it, there’s a reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Proverbs and Psalms every day. Read to you :) I also have the companion book, so I can read along or just read that day if listening isn’t in the cards.  Every year I make it to about mid-July before I get out of the habit of listening and fall off the wagon… I’m hoping this year I can make it all the way to the end of the year!!

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2014 By JulieK

A very happy new year!!! It’s hard to believe that it’s 2014… We had a wonderful 2013, and look forward to even more adventures in the new year!!

It’s time for the annual Christmas Card Book!! I made my first Christmas Card Book in 2008, and since then have collected all the year’s cards, and used my Zutter Bind it All to make them into a book… They all were out on the coffee table this season, and it’s so fun to look through, see how much everyone has grown, see cards from people who are no longer with us, and cards from new friends too… Not only do I make the book for myself, but I also teach it as a class at Ink About It in Westford! So, collect your cards, call the store to reserve your spot (978) 392-0321, and come make the book with me!! The class is on January 30, at 6:30 pm. You don’t need any special tools, just some adhesive and your cards!! Here’s the cover of this year’s book…

Brown paper packages, tied up with string…

November 25, 2013 By JulieK

…these are a few of my favorite things!!

I am so happy that these packages are all ready to be delivered today!!

photo

That’s 14 scarves, all packed up and ready to be delivered (just in time for cold weather and Thanksgiving) to Lazarus House (I bring them to the contact person at the kids’ school, and she distributes them for me!).  I will say, it’s not as many as I had originally planned to have ready, I originally planned to make one scarf a week through summer… but I got distracted… I also dropped 4 off at the Friary yesterday for the priests, and there’s one more waiting in my car for the adorable little old man who walks his dog near my school every morning (well, except THIS morning, when of course I didn’t see him).  But, I have some more yarn, and just finished a bunch of other projects, so I have time to make several more this week.

Looking at this pile of scarves makes me so happy!! That chunky yarn is quick to knit, and it will hopefully put a smile on the recipients faces… AND help to keep them warm!! It’s a win-win!! I get to keep my hands busy (’cause my grandmother always said that “Idle hands do the devil’s work”) and it makes people happy!! Yeah!!

Look how pretty!!

I use the Lion Brand Wool-ease Thick and Quick yarn (usually… there’s a beautiful hand dyed Peruvian wool in there too… pink and blue, bottom left). I’m happy to take it off your hands if you have some that you’re not using… doesn’t matter what color… Of if you happen to see it on sale, please let me know… I’m always on the lookout for it on sale so that I can stock up!!
