Made for Monday

April 11, 2011 By JulieK

Wow!! This week’s “Made for Monday” starts out with some exciting news!!! On Friday, I got 2 emails requesting projects for upcoming magazines!!!! O.M.Gosh!!! I am so excited!!! It’s been a long time since I’ve had a project requested (I NEED to actually submit to have projects picked up, go figure…) and to have 2 picked up is super exciting!!! I’m going to have a card published in the August Cricut Magazine, and another one in the Cricut Cards idea book!!! Yippee!!!! Both projects are using the Creative Memories Cricut Cartridges (between the 2 cards, I used all 3 cartridges) and Creative Memories papers as well… I can’t share those cards until September… But I can now share 2 cards that didn’t make the cut!

Here’s a teacher-themed-ish Thank You card… All patterned papers are Creative Memories, and I used the Cheerful Seasons Cartridge for the apple and the font…

Here’s a side view… You can see the apple stands out (I have a serious addiction to the Creative Memories foam squares!)

And here’s a Birthday Card… I used Creative Memories papers and the new Stork’s Delivery Cricut Cartridge:

Here’s a close-up so you can see the candles and the brackets are popped, yup… those foam squares again :)

I’ll share the other cards when I’m able to (but not til September). They’re going in the mail today!!! Did I mention that I’m excited?

My sister and I have been talking lately about people we remember from our childhood… People we have no idea how to contact… And, our life story is pretty complicated :) there’s not many people to ask… We’re looking for people like the very nice woman who was my father’s girlfriend when he died… Her name was Arlene, and that’s all I know… I have no memory of her last name, but she had brown hair :) So, if you’re reading this… Your name is Arlene, and approx. 32 years ago you were dating a man named Paul Cassidy (who had 2 adorable little girls :) )… can you contact me??? We’re looking for you :)  Anyway, that story is directly related to one of today’s “thankfulnesses” (I know… not a word…) I was also looking for my cousin Jeff, we’re the same-ish age, and the last time I saw him was just about 20 years ago (how THAT’s possible, I have no idea!)… After my grandfather moved to Maryland, whenever I’d visit, Jeff and I used to go into Washington DC or Annapolis and hang out together… I sent a “random” message to someone I thought was him on facebook, and YEAH!! It IS him :) so glad it wasn’t a random stranger who got my “hey, are you my cousin?” message!

Another thing to be thankful for… No More School Committee!!! The town election is over, and Mike is no longer a member of the board!! I am thankful he did not run for re-election, I’m not sure I could take another 3 years… To my dear husband… Job well done!! Now, let someone else do it :)

And… It’s a BEAUTIFUL day today… the sun is shining, it’s breezy… I better got get something cooked for supper :)

There’s LOTS to be thankful for this week…

First and foremost!!!! Last night was the last official meeting of my husband’s tenure on the School Committee!!! YEAH! It has been a very long 3 years, and I was very thankful when he decided not to run for another term. The job (which he did unpaid, ’cause he ran on “giving back” to the schools) was far more difficult and infinitely more time consuming than it looks…  We are glad to have him back to ourselves, and I’m especially thankful because Wednesday nights are not only school committee meeting nights, but also cub scout night… Thankfully, now he can start taking Sean, and I don’t have to go and try to entertain Kathryn while the boys are having their meeting!!!

Here’s one of my favorite photos from the election… 2008, April on election day… Rainy drizzly wet morning… Kathryn in the background wearing her boots so she could “have fun” dancing around behind “Mr. Serious” who’s idea of having fun was holding signs for Daddy… It really captures their personalities… They were 6 and 4… Look at those missing teeth! and I just love her dancing in the background… Super cute!

Anyone want a sign as a souvenir? We still have like 600 of them in the basement :) and I have to keep reminding him that he’s NOT running for ANYTHING for a long time…

On another note… I stood up for myself this week… I’m inherently wimpy, and although I cheer on people who are brave and speak up… I’m not usually one to make waves or put my foot down… but I was unhappy about a decision and stood my ground (eh, in a wimpy way, but still, I pestered people) until something changed… Not everything went my way, but I got a couple changes made that made me happier with the final decision.

We got snow this week (not something to be thankful for…) BUT it went away as quickly as it came… we’re turning the corner, and it’s not just the calendar that’s saying spring…

Here’s a couple of pictures of the super Pinewood Derby cars!!! I need to take a pic of the trophy that Sean got too… Here’s Sean’s car named “Red Hot” which got the trophy for fastest Bear Den car! They cut and sanded the car themselves (with a bit of help from Daddy!) and then painted and stickered them… I guess there’s an art to putting the wheels on “just right” (which we clearly didn’t get right last year!!)  So much fun!

And Kathryn’s car “Blue Lagoon” which was actually FASTER than Sean’s :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful week… and remember to count your blessings!!

Hmmm…. Having a very cranky week… But, even with that, there’s a LOT to be thankful for…

Take a look at this…

OMGosh, isn’t it pretty?? It’s MINE :) well… technically… I bought it and it’s on its way to me… should be here in a couple days… I just LOVE it… found a very cool Etsy Shop that I can’t stop stalking Graceful Rosaries all her beautiful rosaries etc. are handmade… Not only is that gorgeous rosary on it’s way to me… but this beautiful rosary bracelet too… ummm… truth be told, the bracelet will be here sooner… Like, today probably… I LOVED it and bought it from her website… then discovered she had additional items on her etsy store… so stalked the rosary for a day before it decided, what the heck, I NEED that too… It’s almost lent, right? I NEED a beautiful rosary to start lent with… And, maybe more than that, I need some peace… and mindful quiet…

***edited to add… OMGOSH!!! My bracelet arrived today when I got home from school… It’s even MORE beautiful in real life!!! it’s so pretty!! I LOVE it!!

Oh, something else to be thankful for… CKC Manchester is coming, I’m taking several classes… AND staying overnight with friends… changed my reservation today, and am staying 2 nights!!! Thanks to my wonderful Mother in Law who will be picking up the kids those 2 days so that I can go!!
See… Look at those pretty rosaries, think about getting away for 2 whole nights… oh, yeah!! There’s a lot to be thankful for…

Thankful Thursdays

February 10, 2011 By JulieK

Welcome to the first installment of “Thankful Thursdays!” One of my new year’s resolutions was my word of the year… Blessings…  I want to stop and be reminded daily of just how darn lucky I am, and how blessed every single day… Not an easy task when you’re tired and cranky!!! So, what better way to be reminded than to sit down at least once a week and really think about what I’m thankful for…  Most likely won’t be anything remotely prophetic :) BUT here it goes…

This week, I’m thankful for…

1. No-No school days this week!!! We actually have (so far at least, and no snow in the forecast for tomorrow) a 5 day work week!! Yeah!!! Maybe we won’t be in school ’til August!! It’s so hard to get anything finished with so many days off…

2. Forgiveness… I was able to go to 2 of the 4 “parish retreat” events this week… Fr. Michael was very inspirational and I’m very glad that I went to Sunday and Monday evening’s discussions.

3. Random things that make you laugh… Like, the Ozzy/Bieber commercial… OmGosh, cracks me up every time!!!

4. Kathryn’s stomach bug only lasted one day… poor little monkey was feeling pretty lousy, but it went by quick…

5. Shhh… this one’s a secret… I’m afraid to jinx anything… but I have to say that the new medicine to stave off migraines is actually helping… BUT don’t tell my head that, I don’t want it to hear… I went from having 10-12 days of migraine a month (like, throwing up, multiple needs of Imitrex migraines)… to January’s 3 day’s of migraine… you read that right… THREE!!! AND each of the days, I was able to take one single Imitrex and it went away and didn’t come back!!!  Horray!!! AND… It’s February 10th and not a single migraine yet this month… shhhhhhhh don’t jinx it…

That’s about all I have at the moment… I’m having a crabby day today… See, maybe thinking of good things will help chase the crankies away!
