Thankful Thursday

There’s LOTS to be thankful for this week…

First and foremost!!!! Last night was the last official meeting of my husband’s tenure on the School Committee!!! YEAH! It has been a very long 3 years, and I was very thankful when he decided not to run for another term. The job (which he did unpaid, ’cause he ran on “giving back” to the schools) was far more difficult and infinitely more time consuming than it looks… We are glad to have him back to ourselves, and I’m especially thankful because Wednesday nights are not only school committee meeting nights, but also cub scout night… Thankfully, now he can start taking Sean, and I don’t have to go and try to entertain Kathryn while the boys are having their meeting!!!

Here’s one of my favorite photos from the election… 2008, April on election day… Rainy drizzly wet morning… Kathryn in the background wearing her boots so she could “have fun” dancing around behind “Mr. Serious” who’s idea of having fun was holding signs for Daddy… It really captures their personalities… They were 6 and 4… Look at those missing teeth! and I just love her dancing in the background… Super cute!

Anyone want a sign as a souvenir? We still have like 600 of them in the basement :) and I have to keep reminding him that he’s NOT running for ANYTHING for a long time…

On another note… I stood up for myself this week… I’m inherently wimpy, and although I cheer on people who are brave and speak up… I’m not usually one to make waves or put my foot down… but I was unhappy about a decision and stood my ground (eh, in a wimpy way, but still, I pestered people) until something changed… Not everything went my way, but I got a couple changes made that made me happier with the final decision.

We got snow this week (not something to be thankful for…) BUT it went away as quickly as it came… we’re turning the corner, and it’s not just the calendar that’s saying spring…

Here’s a couple of pictures of the super Pinewood Derby cars!!! I need to take a pic of the trophy that Sean got too… Here’s Sean’s car named “Red Hot” which got the trophy for fastest Bear Den car! They cut and sanded the car themselves (with a bit of help from Daddy!) and then painted and stickered them… I guess there’s an art to putting the wheels on “just right” (which we clearly didn’t get right last year!!) So much fun!

And Kathryn’s car “Blue Lagoon” which was actually FASTER than Sean’s :)

Thankful Thursday

Oh My Goodness!!! How can you not feel thankful when the weather outside is GLORIOUS!!!! Sunny and nearly 60 degrees… It’s BEAUTIFUL outside!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! I’m Thankful that although I am a generally not-super-good cook, I make a mean corned beef and cabbage, which I actually made yesterday… YUMMY and even better the second day!!

Sean won his Den’s “fastest car” trophy in the Pinewood Derby!!! He was so proud of himself!!! His car did great, but I didn’t expect him to be the fastest in his den!!! I’ll have photos to post soon… Kathryn’s car also did great, and she actually came in 4th overall… but although the siblings can race, they don’t get any of the trophys…

I’m very excited that my class tonight at Ink About It is SOLD OUT! I’m so looking forward to teaching this one!! I think it’s going to be really fun, and I hope everyone likes the book as much as I do!!

This is the first week of lent… and I have a funny little story… Last Wednesday, we’re driving home and Sean tells me that he’s giving up video games for lent… He loves to read, and figures that he’ll just read more… I reiterated that it’s 40 days… not just til Sunday, but he was sure… and he’s doing great so far… Kathryn, on the other hand, decided that she was going to give up ice pops… hmmm… oh, and after some discussion, she’s also going to give up doing chores for “money,” now she’ll just do it for quarters… :)

As for me… I’ve given up 2 things… Dunkin Donuts… (ACK! Might as well just shoot me now!) and bad language… The DD is going fine… although, I fear that not stopping this afternoon will be pretty difficult, I’ve had a bad day at school… the “no bad language” is a bit harder than I thought it would be… When I told Sean his response was “Mama, there’s no way you can not say “crap”….” well… ummm…. I wasn’t counting that as bad language… I may have to re-think ’cause I don’t think I can not say “crap” either :) I sometimes surprise myself… for example… I had no idea how much I said a$$… the other bad words have been pretty easy to get rid of, but I catch myself with that one more often than I thought… It’s all a work in progress, right? I have been trying…

Thankful Thursday!

How is it possible that it’s already Thursday again??? Seems like I just wrote a Thankful Thursday post!

Here’s something to be thankful for…

Look at all that YARD… you can see WAY more grass than snow!! It’s not the same in the back yard, but the front yard has actual GRASS showing!!! Yeah!!! It’s cold and windy, but that’s OK ’cause there’s hope as long as we can see grass… Now if we could point the sun to the back yard, we’d be in business!!

I also had a very crafty week!! We had card club Tuesday night at Late Night Croppers and we made 7 cards… plus cut for 7 more using a wonderful One Sheet Wonder (really 2 6×6 sheets) pattern that I found HERE It was a lot of fun to get together with everyone!

I also did a quick recycled/book project for Creative Memories… but I can’t share yet! Soon…

Last night was the Pinewood Derby weigh in… Both Sean and Kathryn (for the sibling race) entered their cars… cars have been impounded and are all ready to go on Saturday!! Lots of pics forthcoming after the races… Last year Sean came in second-to-last… just before the boy who’s wheel came off during the race :) We’re hoping to move up in the ranks a little this year!! Mike and Sean read all kinds of stuff about making the cars go fast… Here’s hoping!!!

I also finished up Kathryn’s blankie! It came out so cool… It’s made with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn, and Oh So Soft!!!! I only had to rip the whole thing out once, which is good for me ’cause I decided to knit it… and you all know me… I’m really a crochet girl at heart… But, considering I haven’t knit anything in years (with the exception of a scarf earlier in the winter) It came out really great! I’ll take pics and post about it later in the week…

Thankful Thursday

Hmmm…. Having a very cranky week… But, even with that, there’s a LOT to be thankful for…

Take a look at this…

OMGosh, isn’t it pretty?? It’s MINE :) well… technically… I bought it and it’s on its way to me… should be here in a couple days… I just LOVE it… found a very cool Etsy Shop that I can’t stop stalking Graceful Rosaries all her beautiful rosaries etc. are handmade… Not only is that gorgeous rosary on it’s way to me… but this beautiful rosary bracelet too… ummm… truth be told, the bracelet will be here sooner… Like, today probably… I LOVED it and bought it from her website… then discovered she had additional items on her etsy store… so stalked the rosary for a day before it decided, what the heck, I NEED that too… It’s almost lent, right? I NEED a beautiful rosary to start lent with… And, maybe more than that, I need some peace… and mindful quiet…

***edited to add… OMGOSH!!! My bracelet arrived today when I got home from school… It’s even MORE beautiful in real life!!! it’s so pretty!! I LOVE it!!

Oh, something else to be thankful for… CKC Manchester is coming, I’m taking several classes… AND staying overnight with friends… changed my reservation today, and am staying 2 nights!!! Thanks to my wonderful Mother in Law who will be picking up the kids those 2 days so that I can go!!

See… Look at those pretty rosaries, think about getting away for 2 whole nights… oh, yeah!! There’s a lot to be thankful for…

Thankful Thursday (on Friday)

This week, I’m thankful for VACATION, where I lose track of what day it is!! Is it ALREADY FRIDAY?? Goodness, vacation goes so fast… But it’s VERY nice to not have to get up at 5am… and not have to go to bed ridiculously early ’cause of the 5am wake up time…

We had a fun time yesterday (hence the missing Thursday post! )… We went to the Mapparium, the Mary Baker Eddy Library (where we saw a 1611 Bible… amazing), the Christian Science Church in Boston, and the MIT museum… Plus P.F.Chang’s for lunch or actually lupper… you know, that 3-4:00 ish time way too late for lunch, and way too early for supper… Super fun time…
