Newest Stamps from The Stamps of Life

July 9, 2012 By JulieK

Ok, I KNOW that I’ve mentioned my LOVE of these stamps before… HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE… I met Stephanie Barnard at CKC Manchester this spring, and she has to be one of the nicest people I met that day!! And… (Cool) SHE left a comment on my blog last week!! How fantastic must it be to be a part of her design team? I hope she has an open call sometime soon, I’d love to apply… Anyway, the stamps give a fabulous impression on the first outing (no having to use the “eraser trick” on these beautiful stamps!!). I joined the club, so every month a new fabulous stamp arrives at my doorstep!! And last week the new one came! Check out this cute card I made (’cause it was so cute, I had to make a card the same day it arrived!!) The stamp set is called crayons2stamp and is really versatile…

The inside color, the crayon outline, the word crayon and the “hi” are all separate stamps, there’s also a ton of sentiments included and a heart and 2 flowers… It’s a fabulous set that I’m sure I’ll show you more projects with soon!

And, you all know how much I adore the little turtle stamp from last month… Well, I couldn’t resist using him again… Aren’t they so cute? Those are perfect pearls “bubbles” added :)

Book Review: Through Rushing Water by Catherine Richmond

July 4, 2012 By JulieK

What an eye opening fictional journey to Dakota Territory! Sofia, Russian by birth, and teaching French at a New York women’s college, is convinced that her soon-to-be senator is about to propose to her. She makes her way through the crowd just in time to hear him announce her room mate as his betrothed. The stunned and embarrassed Sofia signs up to become a missionary, and expects to be sent to China. Her assignment sends her to Dakota Territory, where we come to meet the Ponca Tribe.
I learned about how the government treated our own native people in school, but this book brought the story and the hardships to life. I wanted to reach through the book and shake the governmental forces and agents who brought such a proud people to the brink of destruction. Throughout the story, you meet people and their stories, and you are brought right to the time and place with rich descriptions of the hardships and triumphs. Sofia is spunky and not afraid to put herself in harms way to do her missionary work.
Once the story got going, I was afraid that the “love story” would detract from the real story of the people, but it added a very nice complement to a hardship story. Once Sofia meets the Ponca, she works tirelessly to try and help them.

I really enjoyed this book, it was difficult to read some parts, simply because the hardships were real. But, as a historical fiction, it was a great read.

Quick and Easy Summer Post It Note Holder

July 2, 2012 By JulieK

I’m so happy to have a tutorial featured over at http://chicnsavvyreviews.net I’ll be a contributing blogger there (about twice a month to start), and will let you know whenever a new post is live! Please check out her site, she posts lots of giveaways and reviews!!

If you click HERE you will see a complete step-by-step tutorial on how I made this adorable Post It Note holder, with personalized post it notes inside… It’s literally a 15 minute project, which included me stopping to take photos! I used the turtles2love stamp set from The Stamps of Life, I cannot recommend these stamps enough!! They stamp beautifully every time, and look at that turtle!! Isn’t it just the cutest?? I joined the monthly club when I discovered them at CKC Manchester, and honestly, they have very quickly become my go-to stamps!

Here’s the front… It’s about 3 1/2 inches high, and 3 1/4 inches wide. The patterned papers are scraps of last year’s Little Yellow Bicycle Sweet Summertime paper line.

Here’s a shot of the inside where I stamped the smaller turtle from the set every 10 notes or so, and also stamped the cute “back” in blue ink to make him even cuter!
