pur-Absorb Review

June 17, 2013 By JulieK

JulieK, Julie Kelley, Naturally Savvy, pur-Absorb Iron

I was very excited when Naturally Savvy gave me the opportunity to review pur-Absorb Iron supplements. As a woman who hovers around low-iron numbers (low enough that I should take supplements, but not clinically low), I’ve been advised to take Iron supplements. Unfortunately, iron supplements have always upset my stomach and digestion so much, that it’s just not worth it to me to actually take the supplement… Well, my days of close to low Iron and upset stomach are over!! If you need to take iron supplements, but you don’t want to live with the digestive issues, the answer is pur-Absorb.

Pur-Absorb is a liquid iron supplement that comes in convenient single serve packets. You can simply open the packet and either drink it plain, or mix it with a small amount of juice (but not grape juice).  I have tried it both ways, there is no actual flavor in pur-Absorb. When I take it by itself there is a little bit of a metallic feel to it, but when I put it in juice, you would never even know that it was there! I could tell the difference almost immediately! Within a few days there was a noticeable difference in my energy level compared to before I started. It is so easy and I have had no digestion issues!! Considering how sensitive my stomach usually is to iron supplements, having no digestion problems is wonderful!

I have no qualms about recommending pur-Absorb iron to any of my friends who need a little bit of iron supplementation, but no side affects!

Disclaimer: I received a box of  pur-Absorb from the  Naturally Savvy Blogger program to facilitate this review. Opinions are my own.

Unjunk Your Junk Food

April 23, 2013 By JulieK

I love having the opportunity from Naturally Savvy to review some of their products… We all want to eat healthier, it would be so nice to have the time (and money) to be able to eat only whole organic foods… But the reality is that as much as we want totally holistic home grown foods, most of us just go along, eating the best we can with the time and resources available.  This book, Unjunk Your Junk Food is a wonderful resource for eating better without tons of judgement!! It has a great way of giving you choices… Listing the ingredients of a “bad” choice of junk food, and then giving an alternative better choice!!I love that the book doesn’t preach about taking all the “goodies” and snacks out of your diet, it just gives you a healthier alternative!

Unjunk Your Junk Food Book Review

The glossy pages, great images, and straightforward language make this book perfect if you’re trying to eat better, but still like to eat pre-packaged foods and snacks. The pages are full of information on some of the “worst offenders” on the ingredient lists, and how to clean them up for better choices. I find myself reaching for the book often, just refreshing my (bad) memory!! I especially appreciate that the book goes into “hidden” names for some of the worst ingredients, knowing what to look out for on the ingredient list really makes shopping in a healthier way better!

Teeccino Review

February 26, 2013 By JulieK

I don’t know about you, but my doctor has been telling me for a LONG time that I need to cut out caffeine… I ask her… Do you know what I do?? I have 24 8th graders in my classroom at 7:27 in the morning, without caffeine, someone is likely to get hurt :) but she keeps insisting that I need to cut it out… I was very excited to get the opportunity through Naturally Savvy to try out Teeccino products! When the box of “coffee” came, I was happy to give it a try.

I really like it! It does not (to me) taste like coffee, but it has very nice flavors, and a ton of choices for flavoring… It completely satisfies the “I need a hot yummy drink first thing in the morning.” It’s funny, we had recently been to a visit to Georges Island in Boston Harbor. We went on a tour and they were talking about how well the prisoners ate during the civil war, and how only one person ever attempted to escape. They had coffee here, and in the south, because their supply routes had been cut off, they didn’t have actual coffee in the south. They only had chicory root “coffee,” which was a main ingredient in Teeccino. It’s actually delicious, but it made me giggle when I looked at the ingredient list!

Here’s a photo of some of what arrived in my box… Some is not included because I drank it before I remembered to take a picture!!

Also included inthe box was TeeChia, a superseeds hot breakfast cereal. I seriously LOVED the TeeChia. It’s gluten free and delicious, plus it cooks up super quick just like other hot cereals.  The blueberry is seriously really good! And, teamed with a delicious no caf drink, and you have the perfect breakfast!

I was provided a box of Teecino and TeeChia by Naturally Savvy to review, but the opinions expressed are my own. Please see my disclosures page for more information.

SHOLDIT Scarf/Wrap Review

December 31, 2012 By JulieK

I was thrilled to be asked to review the SHOLDIT! What a great idea, especially for this time of year.  When I’m shopping or traveling during the winter I hate to carry around my heavy purse… No matter which jacket I wear, the purse slips off my shoulder constantly and drives me batty! The SHOLDIT is the perfect solution. It’s a scarf/wrap and can be worn in many different ways, but it also features 2 zippered pockets to carry what you need! If you’re looking for more information on the SHOLDIT, here’s where you can find it… at their WEBSITE, follow them on FACEBOOK or their TWITTER

Here’s a photo of me with the SHOLDIT ready for New Year’s Eve in Boston (we were home WELL before the ball dropped :) but the family events in town were really fun way to spend the afternoon and evening, especially when you didn’t have to carry a purse… the T was so crowded!!

The SHOLDIT that I received was orange, which happens to be my favorite color! I’m loving it and I only wear it as a scarf, but it works fine with my big heavy coat with one less thing to carry along and keep track of at the stores and other random places that we go!

This review was made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own.
