Brown paper packages, tied up with string…

November 25, 2013 By JulieK

…these are a few of my favorite things!!

I am so happy that these packages are all ready to be delivered today!!

That’s 14 scarves, all packed up and ready to be delivered (just in time for cold weather and Thanksgiving) to Lazarus House (I bring them to the contact person at the kids’ school, and she distributes them for me!).  I will say, it’s not as many as I had originally planned to have ready, I originally planned to make one scarf a week through summer… but I got distracted… I also dropped 4 off at the Friary yesterday for the priests, and there’s one more waiting in my car for the adorable little old man who walks his dog near my school every morning (well, except THIS morning, when of course I didn’t see him).  But, I have some more yarn, and just finished a bunch of other projects, so I have time to make several more this week.

Looking at this pile of scarves makes me so happy!! That chunky yarn is quick to knit, and it will hopefully put a smile on the recipients faces… AND help to keep them warm!! It’s a win-win!! I get to keep my hands busy (’cause my grandmother always said that “Idle hands do the devil’s work”) and it makes people happy!! Yeah!!

Look how pretty!!

I use the Lion Brand Wool-ease Thick and Quick yarn (usually… there’s a beautiful hand dyed Peruvian wool in there too… pink and blue, bottom left). I’m happy to take it off your hands if you have some that you’re not using… doesn’t matter what color… Of if you happen to see it on sale, please let me know… I’m always on the lookout for it on sale so that I can stock up!!

Yeah! It’s Yarn Season!!

October 22, 2012 By JulieK

I’ve often talked about my seasonal craftiness :) I sew in the summer when I can leave my sewing machine out on the kitchen table and sew… But, in the fall and winter, it’s all about the yarn!! Last winter was my season of “knit” but my heart has always been a crocheter!! Here’s my first crochet project of the yarn season… I saw the pattern and had to have it, the pattern is the Collette Poncho pattern by Jenny King Designs. I loved the pattern, and realized when I got about half way through that I didn’t actually follow the pattern… The pattern calls for SC, and I used DC throughout… but I LOVE it :) In fact, I’m almost done with one in blues as well!!  The pics are from my phone, so not super crisp… I love the cowl neck, it’s so very comfy!! This one uses 4 balls of Red Heart Boutique Treasure yarn in the Abstract colorway… Oh, the fall colors!!!

Boo! Halloween Centerpiece!

October 1, 2012 By JulieK

Oh, yes… I know… I posted a Halloween project last week too!! And, there’s still some space in that class if you’d like to make that BEWARE project! The class is Thursday evening from 6:30 til about 8 and you’ll have the project completely finished by the end of class!! Glitter! Need I say more??
Anyway, I have another Halloween themed project to share this week! The (very simple) tutorial will be featured on the Scrapbook News and Review Blog on Wednesday, but here’s a sneak peek!! Simple materials you probably already have around the house, and I don’t think it took more than 15 minutes to put together!!

Beware! A Halloween Project

September 24, 2012 By JulieK

And, not just any Halloween project… Sean says this was “the best project you’ve ever made” and when I questioned if there was too much glitter (in my head the shapes were just going to be outlined) he chimed in with “you can never have too much glitter.” Truer words were never spoken buddy :) Kathryn’s favorite is the orange glitter ’cause “it looks like it glows!”

This fun project is my next class at Ink About It in Westford, MA!! Class is next Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 and costs just $25. You just need to bring black ink, liquid glue, pop dots, and your regular favorite adhesive!! If you have a Bind it All, bring it along, if not, that’s OK too, we’ll have mine and the store’s for you to use!! So, now… Take a peek at this Halloween fun!!

There’s super cool We R Memory Keepers patterned paper, Tim Holtz Sizzix dies, book pages, black chipboard, and Martha Stewart glitter!! Did I mention that the glitter on the ghosts is Glow in the dark??? That’s a heaping helping of Awesome sauce right there!

Summer Sewing Projects-Baby Quilt

August 13, 2012 By JulieK

I know that my crafts are somewhat seasonal :) I always have paper crafts going throughout the year, but when it’s cold out I crochet and knit… In the summer I quilt and sew because I set my sewing machine up on the kitchen table and leave it there :) I do love to sew!  I have a super cute sewing tutorial that will be posted over at Keeping it Simple next week, but that’s not the only thing I’ve been up to!!

I’m working on several projects… This baby blanket came out super cute (I think) it started as a Moda Bungle Jungle charm pack, and I used the Missouri Star Quilt Company 5″ Tumbler ruler… It came together in an afternoon, which is good ’cause the “baby” isn’t such a baby anymore, I was making a knit blankie for him, but I just can’t knit in the summer :) so I needed to get this done!! All babies should have something made just for them!

I love the colors…

here’s the whole top… A huge thank you to the very nice ladies at the Quilters Common in Wakefield, Kathryn and I took the finished top there, and they helped us to find coordinating fabric (they didn’t have bolts from the Moda line) for the border and the backing/binding

A closeup of one of the corners, love the little monkey!

And here’s the back, bright and bold, I really like how it came out, now I just need to get it in the mail!!

Don’t forget to click the “pin it” button to share the quilt pictures if you like them :)
